Man jailed on suspicion of fatally hitting woman while driving drunk, Arlington police say

A Forest Hill man is in jail on suspicion of killing a woman late Friday while driving intoxicated as he fled the scene of an unrelated incident, Arlington police say.
Officers were dispatched about 11:17 p.m. to the intersection of South Watson and Webb Lynn roads, where they determined the driver of a Dodge Charger had run a red light and hit a motorcyclist, Sgt. Alex Rosado said in a news release Sunday.
The motorcyclist, identified as Julie Maldonado, 43, of Arlington, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Rosado said. She was pronounced dead Saturday morning, according to Tarrant County medical examiner records.
The driver of the Charger, identified as 22-year-old Kenneth Polk, fled the crash scene but was quickly located and pulled over, Rosado said.

Officers determined that at the time of the crash Polk was intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an incident involving a mailbox, Rosado said.
Police arrested Polk based on the results of a series of roadside sobriety tests, department spokesman Tim Ciesco said in a statement Sunday afternoon. He is charged with intoxication manslaughter and collision involving death.
Polk consented to a blood draw for a toxicology screening, Ciesco said. The results are pending, he said.
In Texas, the legal blood alcohol limit to drive is 0.08.
Polk was in the Tarrant County jail Sunday afternoon in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to the jail website. Court records didn’t list an attorney for him.
